A visit from the Governor of Okayama

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Sister-State Relationship between South Australia and Okayama Prefecture, Japan. To celebrate this milestone, Mr Ryuta Ibaragi, the Governor of Okayama and a number of other dignitaries have come to our state on an official visit. Our school was honoured to be included in their itinerary due to the fact that we are hosting Kei Furuta, an exchange teacher from Okayama. The visit took place on Wednesday 2 May. The Governor met with Jason, Kei and our SRC Leaders Maddie and Izzy, before observing a Japanese lesson with students from Room 11. A special thank you must go to Gemma and Faith from Room 12 for creating a beautiful hand-drawn picture that was presented to the Governor. Thanks too to Ruben and Aurelia from Room 11 for writing in Japanese on the card, and to the staff who worked behind the scenes to make this important event such a success.

Belair National Park Fun Day

Everyone had a great time at the Belair National Park Fun Day. There was a mixture of opportunities for the students to engage in throughout the day including bush art, hikes, organised games, free play and time at the adventure playground. Thank you to Josie for the work she put in to organising the day. This was an excellent way of finishing off the term and we had outstanding timing with the weather. The feedback on the day was positive and we will be gathering further feedback from the students to consider for next year.

My Many Coloured Days Seuss Performance

Last term in Music, Dance and Drama, students explored music and movement in connection to emotions coinciding with their inquiry units on Identity. On Wednesday 4 April the school exploded with colour and excitement as the students performed 'My Many Coloured Days' by Dr Seuss. Each class expressed an emotion connected to a colour through song, dance and music instruments. The SAC was full to capacity with outstanding support from our school community! Josie and I are exceptionally proud of the effort all students put in throughout the term to produce an entertaining and thought provoking performance. Thank you to all for your support.

Introducing the Japanese teachers

こんにちは!(Konnichiwa) My name is Elin Gubbin and I am excited to be teaching Japanese at Eden Hills. I would like to introduce myself to the school community. In 2017 I was lucky to be a participant in a departmental exchange program to Japan. Together with my husband and two children, I spent the year living in Adelaide’s sister city Himeji, where I taught English at a senior high school and an open access university. I am looking forward to sharing all the experiences and knowledge I gained from the year with the students at Eden Hills. Prior to going on exchange, I worked for many years teaching Japanese at Tea Tree Gully Primary School.

In Terms 2 and 3 this year we are fortunate to be hosting Kei Furuta, an exchange teacher from Okayama, at our school. Kei and I are looking forward to working together to provide a fun and exciting Japanese program for all the students.

Hello. I am Kei Furuta. I am a senior high school English teacher in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. I came to Adelaide as an exchange teacher in April. I look forward to having a nice time teaching the students. I hope they will enjoy Japanese classes with me!
