SAPSASA Cross Country

On Friday 11 May, 38 students went to Belair National Park to compete in the Southern Heights District SAPSASA cross country trials. The students did their best in the wet and muddy conditions. Jayden and Sean finished their races in the top 6, Jayden will be going to Oakbank for the metropolitan cross country championships. Thank you to Jodie, Fiona, Anna, Kurt and Emma for supporting the team.

Craig - Team Manager

Fund My Neighbourhood Playground Update

We anticipate that the demolition and construction of our new playground will start this term, in Week 10 at the beginning of July. We hope completion will be around July 20!

Pedal Prix

The Eden Hills Pedal Prix Team had their first two training sessions this month. The year 6/7 students got to pace themselves around the modified track at Victoria Park while navigating around quite a number of fellow racers from other schools. Each child participated in a mock roll over in the vehicle “Speed’n Eden” to experience what it would feel like if they tipped over during the race. As you can see from the photo below the students had a great time bonding as a team.

We have a couple more practice sessions before our first big six hour race on Sunday 17 June between 10.00am – 4.00pm at Victoria Park. We would love for our school community to come down and support the Eden Hills 2018 Pedal Prix Team and cheer us on!

Illness

Just a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. By staying at home the spread of illness can hopefully be contained, which then causes less disruption to students and staff.

Pupil Free Day

Reminder that there is a Pupil Free Day, Friday 8 June 2018.
OSHC will be available for our students. Contact Di to book in on 0401 121 190.

School Calendar

The school calendar is updated regularly so please remember to check it for upcoming events. You can find the calendar on the school website and on the Schoolzine Plus App.

A Big Thank You

Cath Leo has been taking photos capturing our students participating in school events and, most recently, in our Powerful Learner Attributes posters that you will see around the school. Cath is a very talented photographer and we are very grateful for her contributions.

Entertainment Books

Entertainment Books were sent home two weeks ago. The cost is only $70 which represents great value with over $15 000 worth of offers. If you wish to keep the book, payment is now required. Payment can be made direct to Entertainment Book (instructions were enclosed in the envelope) or via QKR, EFTPOS or cash. If you do not require the Book please return it to the school ASAP.

Policy Review

We are in the process of reviewing and updating a number of our school policies. Throughout term 1 staff have worked in teams to develop the draft policies and these were presented to governing council for initial consultation and feedback. We are now inviting you to provide feedback on the policies before they are approved. We currently have four policies under review – Attendance Policy, Parent Complaint Policy, Anti-Bullying Policy and Behaviour Development Policy. The Anti-Bullying Policy has an audit checklist that needs to be followed and has been included for your perusal. The four policies can be found on our website in the link below under the policies and documents tab and are the ones that have ‘draft’ next to them.

http://www.edenhillps.sa.edu.au/

There is a link below to the front page of the website. From there, under ‘Latest News’ is where feedback can be submitted. We will also have a link in the next newsletter. Feedback needs to be submitted by 4pm Wednesday 20 June 2018.

Kiss and Drop

Kiss and Drop Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zone, which means you may stop for a maximum of 2 minutes to drop off or pick up children. You are required to remain in, or within 3 metres of, your vehicle. Our Kiss and Drop times are 8.00am - 9.00am and 3.00pm -4.00pm. Please be considerate to those parents who need to park before 3.00pm to pick up their child early and do not sit in preparation for kiss and drop by parking up to 30 minutes before the designated times.

Be aware that Mitcham Council continually monitors schools to enforce parking zones and restrictions to ensure the safety of students.

Lunch Order Coordinator Position

We are asking for a volunteer to take on the Lunch Order Coordinator role for the rest of this year. A big thank you to Emma Whitham who has done an amazing job establishing the rosters and organizing any changes or backfilling. Without parent support the lunch order facility will not continue, which would be a shame as the students look forward to their special lunches on a Monday and Friday. If you are able to take this role on please contact us in the office.

SPELD

SPELD, the Specific Learning Difficulties Association of South Australia, is a non-profit organisation that provides advice and services to support children and adults with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

Their website, which parents can access, is an invaluable resource. Their recommendation for a great place to start is the yellow Parents’ Corner tab on the home screen, which will lead you to an array of information tabs including the AUSPELD’s Understanding Learning Difficulties and a FREE downloadable guide for parents.

If you have any questions or want to access SPELD’s website use the link below for the contact details.

DUTY OF CARE - STUDENTS AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8.30AM OR AFTER 3.30PM

We are noticing an increasing number of students arriving very early in the mornings. Parents need to be aware that staff yard duty does not commence until 8.30am each morning and finishes at 3.30pm each afternoon. If your child needs to be at school outside these hours they must attend Out of School Hours Care (OSHC). See OSHC staff for details and registration forms.

Flinders Child Care Centre

The Flinders University Child Care Centre is situated within the grounds of Flinders University. Flinders delivers an emergent, play based program for children. Flinders prides itself on natural environments, play-based programs and qualified and committed educators. The Flinders philosophy is central to every decision made here.

Natural environments and outdoor play are a unique feature of Flinders. Indoor-outdoor programs are run in each house and children access the gardens all year round. Children wear rain suits in winter and play in natural shaded spaces in summer. Outdoor play in natural spaces fosters a strong connection with place and nature.

Play-based programs use play as a context for learning. Play is the work of childhood and when children learn through play it is more meaningful, engaging and intrinsically motivating than learning in any other context. Educators design play-based programs that reflect children’s individual interests.

Educators at Flinders are qualified, enthusiastic, contemporary and committed.

Flinders is in the unusual position of having vacancies for over 3 year olds. Please contact us on 8201 2881 if you would like a tour of our centre. You may like to visit our website -
