Welcome to Term 4

Welcome to the final term of the year. This is a busy and important term, especially for our year 7 students who will be completing their final term of primary school before embarking on a new chapter in high school. This term we also have the Spring Fair and End of year concert to look forward to. We will soon be setting classes for 2019 so please look out for the class placement request information in this newsletter and separate email.

On Monday we welcomed 5 new students to our school. Welcome to Lux, Max, Anais, Jasmine and Jett. We hope you settle in well and enjoy your time at Eden Hills PS.

Welcome back to our staff members Sam Kavanagh, who has returned from maternity leave and Angela Hills, who has recovered so well to be back teaching the R/1 students. Welcome back to Julie Howie who has also returned from leave.

2019 Materials and Services Charge

At our next Governing Council meeting, which will be held on Wednesday 7 November 2018 at 7:00pm in the Staff room, the 2019 Materials and Services Charge will be approved. Parents who would like to discuss the fees are welcome to attend the meeting.

In lieu of attendance at the meeting, parents can express their views in writing to the Chairperson of the Governing Council to reach the school by 3:00pm on Tuesday 6 November 2018.

The charge proposed for 2019 is $355 which is above the standard sum. For this reason we will soon be posting families a voting slip seeking their approval to make the full amount of the charge legally recoverable.

A copy of the “Notice of Materials & Services Charges for 2019” is below.

2019 Class Placement Requests

We are currently in the process of preparing for 2019. We have sent home information and are now accepting letters of request from parents regarding their child’s class placement for 2019 until Friday 2 November (end of Week 3).

If you did not receive a letter this week you can access it via the Schoolzine App or our website on the ‘Correspondence Sent Home’ tab.

End of Year Concert 2019 Survey

In regard to the end of year concert we are seeking feedback from the parent community as to options for 2019 and beyond.

Currently we conduct a concert at the Capri Theatre late in term 4 where all classes and staff present an item, we acknowledge the graduating year 7s, we farewell long term staff (if applicable) and farewell families leaving EHPS. We offer 2 tickets per family and 4 tickets to the year 7 families and charge $5 per ticket to help cover the cost of hiring the venue.

However, we have reached a dilemma for next year, and for at least the following 2 years before year 7s are no longer in primary schools. Due to an increase in enrolments and a very large number of year 7s, we can’t offer the same as there aren’t enough seats in the theatre.

So before we make a decision, which will be done in consultation with the Governing Council, we are seeking your feedback. We have some options for you to consider or you may have your own thoughts you would like to contribute.

Please take the time to complete the survey and have your thoughts considered.

Snack Day 2018

Last term the Year 3s from Room 5 learnt about working as a group democratically and about volunteering to help others.

As a group we decided to hold a Snack Day to raise money for the Eden Hills Primary School Playgroup so that they could buy new resources.

The Snack Day was a great success. We worked together to bag up popcorn and make fruit salads. We volunteered out time at recess and lunch to sell the fruit salads and popcorn we had made to the rest of the school.

All this would not have been possible without the help of parents from our class, donations of popcorn, use of popcorn machines and the generous donation of fruit from the Waggon Wheels Fruit Market in Blackwood. We raised a grand total $146.00, which we presented to Playgroup on the last day of Term 3.

The best part was making the snacks and eating them – Daniel

I liked volunteering to help the Playgroup and making the snacks – Coco

The best thing about Snack Day was making the popcorn – Norah and Arlia

School Lunches Changes for 2019

As you may be aware Blackwood High School canteen provide us with a school lunch service every Monday and Friday.

They are currently using Munch Monitors for their online ordering service. From 2019 they will be changing to QKR.

What does this mean for you?

  • At this stage we just need to make you aware that there will be changes so DON’T put large amounts into your current Munch Monitors account. You WILL NOT be refunded for any credit you have left in your account at the end of 2018.
  • Most of you have already signed up with QKR and are familiar with how it works. For those who have yet to download the App we have fact sheets available in the office.

Be Aware of Snakes

Warmer spring days sparks the commencement of snake season, when they become active out of hibernation.

No person is to put themselves at risk by being in direct contact with a snake. The sighting of a snake within the school grounds is to be reported as follows:

  • Within school hours - to Admin office
  • Outside school hours (but during OSHC hours) - to OSHC staff (who will advise principal when appropriate)

The teachers will have spoken to the students about what they should do if they see a snake in the school grounds.

Ice Blocks

The weather is warming up so a friendly reminder we have ice blocks available every Tuesday and Thursday Lunchtime for 50c each. The Helping Hands set up at the benches next to the SAC and OSHC Buildings.

Breakfast Club

Come and join us for Breakfast Club on Wednesday mornings in the STEM Room.
