Book Week

Premier’s Reading Challenge

This year’s Challenge finishes on Friday 6 September – just over 6 weeks to go!

Taking on the Challenge is a great way to improve literacy skills. To date, 46% of our students have completed the Challenge. With support from school and home we can make our final figure 100%.

Things to do in the next 6 weeks:

Read! Read! Read!

Check out the PRC website at the link below. It has lots of information and activities and is also the place to check whether books that you have at home or from other libraries are on the list.

http://www.prc.sa.edu.au

Quoting from the PRC website, ‘The PRC should be inclusive for all students who are willing to take up the challenge’. At the teacher’s discretion, students can read above their year level/below their year level/more than 4 books not on the booklist. Speak to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns.

E-Books, Audio Books, class/shared reading (including books read at home with the family, or books that are read to the student by an adult), non-fiction, research and books in other languages can all be included.

There are some PRC books on display in the Resource Centre for ‘quick picking’ and there are plenty more on the shelves for those with time to browse.

Pop down to the Resource Centre for a new Student Record Form if the original one is missing.

A cautionary tale - there are a few older students who did not complete the Challenge in earlier years who are now disappointed that they receive a ‘lower’ award than their classmates each year. There is no mechanism for ‘catching up’ - you can only complete one Challenge each year.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Planning For 2020

It is that time of the year when we start planning for classes and staffing for 2020. Knowing our student numbers means we can keep class sizes to a minimum. Enrolment estimates are a key element in this planning. If your child/ren WILL NOT be attending our school next year (excluding the current Year 7s) please contact the school office as soon as possible.

If you intend for your child to commence school at Eden Hills Primary next year, and you haven’t yet done so, please contact the school so arrangements can be made to provide you with an enrolment form.

In addition if you know families whose children are likely to start at our school in 2020 please encourage them to contact us.

Attendance At School

The South Australian Department for Education states ‘ensuring regular attendance at school is a shared responsibility between parents/caregivers, preschools and schools.

By working together and detecting any early signs of attendance problems or concerns we can help support you with getting your child to school every day.’
