WELCOME TO THE 2020 SCHOOL YEAR

Welcome to another new year at Eden Hills Primary School, with a very warm welcome to our new families joining us. We are really excited for the learning year ahead. I feel incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to lead such an amazing school and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with the school community to support our students’ learning. I would like to thank and acknowledge the dedication and hard work of Jason Munro in leading us over the past 4 years. Jason’s significant contributions have helped move the school forward and we wish him all the best as Principal of Westbourne Park.

Due to the rapid nature of our leadership change at the end of 2019 we have only been able to advertise the Deputy Principal position this week. We hope to have the panel completed shortly. Once this process is finalized, the successful applicant should be able to be announced sometime during week 2.

This year will be starting with 10 classes across the school, with Japanese, PE, Music and Performing Arts as specialist subjects. We have established our teaching teams across the school and are eager and ready to continue our strong collaborative environment.

We have also had some exciting staff news over the holidays. Firstly, congratulations to Jake and his wife Rebecca who welcomed Evelyn Burfitt to the world on Jan 5. Fantastic news and such an exciting and rewarding time for them. Jake will be taking some parental leave at the start of the year and Leanne will take the class during this time. We were also thrilled to hear the news that Kat Woznicki is expecting her first child sometime near the beginning of Term 3. Kat intends to be with us until the end of Semester 1 and we will begin to look for her replacement shortly.

While there has been some wonderful news over the break it has also been a very difficult time for our communities with the recent bushfires. Everyone has had different experiences and some of you, your family or friends may have been directly affected. You are in our thoughts. Support is available for schools, students and families.

Our staff have resources to help guide them through supporting students in the classroom and in the school yard. There are also resources available to parents if they need some guidance on supporting their children.

Governing Council AGM

The Annual General Meeting for the Eden Hills Primary School Governing Council will be held on Wednesday 19 February at 7.00pm in the Resource Centre. We invite all parents to play an active part in the school and the Governing Council is a great way to be involved. We meet twice a term to discuss the broad direction of the school including policies, strategic direction and finance. If you would like to nominate for the Governing Council, we invite you to complete a nomination form and attend the AGM. The term for a position on the Governing Council is 2 years. If you are an existing Governing Council member and your 2 year term is expiring, you must nominate to be considered for election. A reminder letter with nomination forms will be sent home before the AGM.

Resource Centre News

Welcome to another wonderful year of reading!

Here’s how we work:

  • All students have a weekly borrowing and browsing lesson
  • We are open from 8.30am for before school borrowing and until 3.30pm for after school borrowing

  • We are open at lunchtimes too for reading, browsing, relaxing, playing board games, colouring, crafting, Lego club…
  • Parents/caregivers can borrow books for pre-school siblings. Come on down and we will set you up with a borrowing number
  • There is an adult free little library (open 24/7) just outside the Resource Centre entrance (Our current stocks are a bit low so we would be grateful for any donations).

Schoolzine

Our school uses Schoolzine to communicate and inform our school community of events and information. We have consolidated all aspects of communication with a new school website established and maintained by Schoolzine.

Schoolzine is mobile friendly, accessible on all devices and provides seamless integration with the Eden Hills Primary School newsletter. It accesses online forms including absentee lodgement and a dynamic calendar including events RSVP.

Payment of Fees

Thank you to all the parents who have already paid their school fees.

The office is open 8.30am – 3.30pm each day for payment of fees. Pay your school fees from home! It’s easy! Why not try our secure online payment system Bpoint. Go to the link below and follow the links.

Preferably try Qkr by MasterCard. It can be downloaded for free from Apple’s app store for iPhones (iPads should download the iPhone app) or from Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

After downloading the app and registering, simply select Eden Hills Primary School from ‘Nearby Locations’ on Qkr or type EHPSA after tapping the magnifying glass in the top right of the home screen of Qkr. The app will then always recognise you as part of the school, making future payments even easier.

You can pay all your School fees, Aquatics fees, Camp fees, OSHC and Vacation Care payments right now using Qkr, so why not download it today and take a look at our school on Qkr!

Duty of Care of Students before 8.30am and after 3.30pm

Parents need to be aware that staff yard duty does not commence until 8.30am each morning and finishes at 3.30pm each afternoon. If your child needs to be at school outside these hours they must attend Out of School Hours Care (OSHC). See OSHC staff for details and registration forms.

Bushfire Safety

Our Emergency Action Plan Policy is available on the school website below.

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with it. Our school will only be closed on a day when the CFS declares a day of catastrophic risk in the Mount Lofty Ranges area. Families are reminded that they should discuss their own bushfire action plan with their children.

We also remind you to complete the Emergency Collection Authorisation form that was posted to all families. After an Emergency event, students will only be released to previously named authorised adults unless a written note is sent to school, on the day, naming a different adult. A phone call will not be accepted as authorisation. It is vital that all contact information is up to date.

Lunch Orders

Ordering Lunch Orders is done via Qkr. Login to your Qkr app, select Canteen and follow the prompts. You will find the menu and can make your selection. Make sure you update your child’s profile with the correct year level and classroom number and please be advised that the daily cut off ordering time is 9.15 am.

Student Absences, SMS Messaging and Attendance Update

Parents are asked to notify the school via text on the following number 0427 016 460 or by using the Schoolzine App by 9.00am if your child is going to be absent or arrive after 9.00am.

We are continuing to use the electronic roll marking system and if your child is marked as an unexplained absence you will automatically receive a text from us. If your child is late or leaving early you must sign in or out in the Front Office.

Acquaintance Night

You are invited to our Acquaintance Evening on Tuesday 11 February 2020. We would love to see all families represented at this important event. If you can arrange care for your children that would be appreciated, to reduce numbers in the yard.

This evening will provide an opportunity to:

  • Meet your child's class teacher and hear about plans for this term and beyond
  • Find out about how you can support learning in the classroom

This is not intended to be an opportunity for a formal meeting with class teachers. If you have any particular concerns related to your child, which will require lengthier discussion please email their teacher directly to make an appointment.

MSP Photography will be taking our school photos this year.

Parents can still send the money to the school in the self-sealed envelope supplied however On-Line Ordering, where parents are now able to select their preferred package online makes it much easier for you.

Placing your child’s order online is the safest & easiest way to order school photos. Just enter the shootkey printed on your child’s envelope and make your selection! If you are having a Sibling photo taken, do the same with the shootkey printed on that envelope (envelopes available from schools front office) and you’re done. It really is that easy!

The range of options available to you online has increased. As well as the option to download a Low Resolution image for a smart-phone, parents will now have the option to purchase a High Resolution Digital Download of their child.

An added incentive for our families is that MSP now offers a 10% discount for all orders above $90.00 a family. To receive this discount online your orders must be placed in one transaction. If you are paying with cash please total your order amount, then apply your discount and place the correct money in the self-sealed envelope.

The envelopes will be sent home with your child/ren Wednesday 14th February!

Student Medication

Please remember that any medication sent to school for children to take throughout the day, even on a short term basis, must be accompanied by a medication form that is obtained from your doctor or on our website under the parent information tab (see link below). Staff are not allowed to administer any medication without written instruction from the doctor. Also, all medication should be taken to the office at the beginning of the day for safe storage.

Register now for Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Pedal Prix, Soccer, T-Ball and Volleyball.

You can now register for all 4 terms of sport! Please keep your confirmation email with an edit link in case you need to change your selections.

**Important**

We need volunteers!! We needs sports coordinators, coaches and team managers. If we don't find volunteers for these positions, the sport cannot be offered and then the children miss out. Volunteers need a working with children check which can be organised through the school.

School Banking

Student School Banking is on Tuesdays and we require a parent volunteer to continue this service. The commitment is about ½ hour every Tuesday to process the banking on site and then to take the money up to the bank the same day. If you are interested in becoming our Student School Banking volunteer or have any queries please contact the Front Office.

Playgroup

The Eden Hills Primary School Playgroup commences on Friday in Week 2, 2020. Playgroup sessions are run most Fridays during term time from 9.00-10.30am. Playgroup is held in the school’s Resource Centre and is suitable for children aged 1-5 years.

Entry is a gold coin donation and a piece of fruit to share during story time. Instant tea and coffee are complimentary. Espresso coffee is available for $1. Please bring your own lidded keep-cup.

Each week, Playgroup focuses on a different Theme, providing a range of activities that allow parents/grandparents and caregivers to interact and strengthen attachments with their young children, and to share the experience of learning through play.

Open to everyone, the Eden Hills Primary School Playgroup is a great place to meet other families from the community in a welcoming and friendly environment. Hope to see you there!

Cello Lessons

Music skills help assist in all areas of education and development by simultaneously using both sides of the brain. In childhood, music education can benefit many areas such as mathematics, memory, language, fine motor skills, focus and confidence, whilst also having fun!

Cello lessons are available to all students in year 1 and above.

Private lessons are held on Wednesdays with (rotating or fixed) 30 minute time slots.
