Welcome to another new year at Eden Hills Primary School, with a very warm welcome to our new families joining us. We are really excited for the learning year ahead. 2020 was certainly a challenging year with many unique circumstances presented to us, but as we have such an amazingly supportive school community we were able to provide the best possible learning for our students. 2021 will also culminate with a milestone event as we will farewell both our Graduating Year 6s and 7s as one group to start high school in 2022.

While there’s currently no community transmission of COVID-19 in South Australia, it’s important we remain prepared to respond to the fast-changing nature of the pandemic. Guidelines and expectations are still evolving but we can now welcome parents back on site to drop your children off. We continue to ask that you minimize your time on site and avoid entering classroom spaces where possible to help support ongoing distancing requirements. One significant observation and learning from last year was that there was a marked improvement in independence and resilience of students as they took themselves to class. To support contact tracing purposes there will be QR codes placed at various entry points to the school and we ask that you scan these when entering the site. If entering the administration building there is a limit of 5 adults at a time. We are also planning to have host class-based parent attendance at Assemblies this year and will communicate the details at a later stage. A reminder to keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell or present with any COVID related symptoms.

We were lucky enough to receive funding support at the end of 2020 for building and grounds upgrades. We have upgraded the air-conditioning in Rooms 11 and 12 and have planned to have the Tiger Turf replaced as well as the SAC floor resurfaced. Other projects will be occurring throughout the year and we will update you on their progress through our Newsletters.

Our Nature Play space near the playground and Rooms 11 and 12 will begin development this year. We already have interest from staff to form a working group and will be looking to involve parents in this group to help create a wonderful learning environment for our students. If you have time during the school day and would like to be involved keep an eye out as we will communicate details about this initiative later this term.

We continue our improvement journey in 2021 through our Site Improvement Plan with a focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Student Agency. Our Numeracy direction continues to be multi stage problem solving while this year’s Literacy priority shifts from Narrative to Persuasive writing. Critical thinking will be the focal point of our student agency work, supporting our students to develop their capacity to pose relevant questions, analyse information and draw and communicate conclusions to authentically influence their learning.

This year will be starting with 10 classes across the school, with Japanese, PE, music and performing arts as specialist subjects. We have established our teaching teams across the school and are eager and ready to continue our strong collaborative environment.

Fruit Fly Outbreak

The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) has recently advised that much of metropolitan Adelaide and some areas of the Riverland are in fruit fly outbreak or suspension areas.

To help South Australia fight fruit fly becoming an established pest, PIRSA is introducing the following movement restrictions, effective immediately until at least Thursday 15 April 2021.

Fruit and fruiting vegetables that can be infected by fruit fly must not be included in lunch boxes until further notice

It is families’ responsibilities to follow these restrictions, schools are not required to monitor students and/or their lunchboxes. If parents/carers have any queries as to which fruit or fruiting vegetable are affected, please visit the link below:

Governing Council AGM

The Annual General Meeting for the Eden Hills Primary School Governing Council will be held on Wednesday 17 February at 7.00pm in the Resource Centre. We invite all parents to play an active part in the school and the Governing Council is a great way to be involved. We meet twice a term to discuss the broad direction of the school including policies, strategic direction and finance. If you would like to nominate for the Governing Council, we invite you to complete a nomination form and attend the AGM. The term for a position on the Governing Council is 2 years. If you are an existing Governing Council member and your 2 year term is expiring, you must nominate to be considered for election. A reminder letter with nomination forms will be sent home before the AGM.

Mobile Phones

The Department for Education’s student use of mobile phones and personal devices policy has now been finalized.

Under this policy, primary aged students will not be permitted to access their mobile phones during the school day.

All students must continue to hand their mobile phones in to the Front Office at the beginning of the day and collect them when they depart school.

Resource Centre News

Welcome to another wonderful year of reading!

Here’s how we work:

  • All students have a weekly borrowing and browsing lesson
  • We are open from 8.30am for before school borrowing and until 3.30pm for after school borrowing
  • We are open at lunchtimes too for reading, browsing, relaxing, playing board games, colouring, crafting, Lego club…
  • There is an adult free little library (open 24/7) just outside the Resource Centre entrance (Our current stocks are a bit low so we would be grateful for any donations).
  • We will let you know when parent and younger sibling borrowing will recommence as soon as we have a COVID restrictions update form the Department for Education.


Our school uses Schoolzine to communicate and inform our school community. We have consolidated all aspects of communication with a new school website established and maintained by Schoolzine.

Schoolzine is mobile friendly, accessible on all devices and provides seamless integration with the Eden Hills Primary School newsletter. It accesses online forms including absentee lodgement and a dynamic calendar including events RSVP.

Payment of Fees

Thank you to all the parents who have already paid their school fees.

The office is open 8.30am - 3.30pm each day for payment of fees. Pay your school fees from home! It’s easy! Why not try our secure online payment system Bpoint. Go to www.edenhillps.sa.edu.au and follow the links.


Preferably try Qkr by MasterCard. It can be downloaded for free from Apple’s app store for iPhones (iPads should download the iPhone app) or from Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

After downloading the app and registering, simply select Eden Hills Primary School from ‘Nearby Locations’ on Qkr or type EHPSA after tapping the magnifying glass in the top right of the home screen of Qkr. The app will then always recognise you as part of the school, making future payments even easier.

Duty of Care of Students before 8.30am and after 3.30pm

Parents need to be aware that staff yard duty does not commence until 8.30am each morning and finishes at 3.30pm each afternoon. If your child needs to be at school outside these hours they must attend Out of School Hours Care (OSHC). See OSHC staff for details and registration forms.

Bushfire Safety

Our Emergency Action Plan Policy is available on the school website


Please take the time to familiarise yourself with it. Our school will only be closed on a day when the CFS declares a day of catastrophic risk in the Mount Lofty Ranges area. Families are reminded that they should discuss their own bushfire action plan with their children.

We also remind you to complete the Emergency Collection Authorisation form that was posted to all families. After an Emergency event, students will only be released to previously named authorised adults unless a written note is sent to school, on the day, naming a different adult. A phone call will not be accepted as authorisation. It is vital that all contact information is up to date.

Lunch Orders

Lunch Orders will now be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

(Instead of Monday’s and Friday’s)

Starting Tuesday 2 February.

Ordering Lunch Orders is done via Qkr. Login to your Qkr app, select Canteen and follow the prompts. You will find the menu and can make your selection. Make sure you update your child’s profile with the correct year level and classroom number and please be advised that the daily cut off ordering time is 9.00 am.

Student Absences, SMS Messaging and Attendance Update

Parents are asked to notify the school via text on the following number 0427 016 460 or by using the Schoolzine App by 9.00am if your child is going to be absent or arrive after 9.00am.

We are continuing to use the electronic roll marking system and if your child is marked as an unexplained absence you will automatically receive a text from us. If your child is late or leaving early you must sign in or out in the Front Office.

Acquaintance Night

You are invited to our Acquaintance Evening on Tuesday 16 February 2021. We would love to see all families represented at this important event. If you can arrange care for your children that would be appreciated, to reduce numbers in the yard.

This evening will provide an opportunity to:

  • Meet your child's class teacher and hear about plans for this term and beyond
  • Find out about how you can support learning in the classroom

This is not intended to be an opportunity for a formal meeting with class teachers. If you have any particular concerns related to your child, which will require lengthier discussion please email their teacher directly to make an appointment.

MSP Photography will be taking our school photos this year.

Parents can send the money to school in the self-seal envelope supplied however On-Line Ordering, where parents are now able to select their preferred package online makes it much easier for our parent community.

Placing your child’s order online is the safest & easiest way to order school photos. Just enter the shootkey printed on your child’s envelope and make your selection! If you are having a Sibling photo taken, do the same with the shootkey printed on that envelope (envelopes available from the school’s front office) and you’re done. It really is that easy!

The range of options available to you online has increased. As well as the option to download a Low Resolution image for a smart-phone, parents will now have the option to purchase a High Resolution Digital Download of their child.

An added incentive for our families is that MSP now offers a 10% discount for all orders above $90.00 per family. To receive this discount online your orders must be placed in one transaction. If you are paying with cash please total your order amount, then apply your discount and place the correct money in the self-seal envelope.

Student Medication

Please remember that any medication sent to school for children to take throughout the day, even on a short term basis, must be accompanied by a medication form that is obtained from your doctor or on our website under the parent information tab (see link below). Staff are not allowed to administer any medication without written instruction from the doctor. Also, all medication should be taken to the office at the beginning of the day for safe storage.

EHPS Propagation Shed

The Eden Hills PS Propagation Shed was established last year, with our Green Team enjoying being able to plant seeds and seedlings and watch them grow. Herbs, veggies, succulents and a few natives were among the successful plants, and the Propagation Shed’s irrigation system was able to keep most things alive over the summer break.

This year we are ready to begin concentrating on the propagation of some hardy native plants, suitable for future planting around our school grounds. By involving our students in this process, we aim to generate pride in, and responsibility for, the school grounds. We will also continue to grow herbs and other seedlings, with any produce grown made available to our community for a gold coin donation.

If you would like to support the propagation shed and its helpers, we are currently seeking donations of seeds and seedlings, plant cuttings, medium to large pots and potting mix. In particular, any native seedlings would be most appreciated.

The Eden Hills Primary School Playgroup commences for 2021 on Friday in Week 2. Playgroup sessions are run most Fridays during term time from 9:00-10:30am. Playgroup is held in the school’s Resource Centre and caters for children aged 1-5yrs. Our Playgroup Coordinator, Perdita Hope, has completed COVID-19 Infection Control Training, and maintains a safe Playgroup environment.

Entry is a gold coin donation and instant tea and coffee are complimentary. Espresso coffee is available for $1. Please bring your own lidded keep-cup and a healthy snack for your little one/s to eat during shared story time.

Each week, Playgroup focuses on a different Theme, providing a range of activities that allow parents/grandparents and caregivers to interact and strengthen attachments with their young children, and to share the experience of learning through play.

Open to everyone, the Eden Hills Primary School Playgroup is a great place to meet other families from the community in a welcoming, safe and friendly environment.
